November 2009 Annual Awards Banquet January
9th. Contact Pat Jutras/ See flyer for more info.
October 2009 Our cruise to the Lexington A & W turned
out to be a great ride. The weather couldn’t have been better. Along the water
and lakes the scenery was fantastic. We were met at the A & W by a couple of
other members for an excellent burger and root beer floats. We then traveled to
Bunny’s for some frozen custard. From chocolate to an unusual black
raspberry/vanilla twist, a great mom and pop operation in the area.
Summer has been going by
quickly, we have many events left this year for you to participate in. Don’t let
the rain and cool weather dim your enthusiasm. Get in the Corvette and come on
out. I am putting the word out now as we approach the end of 2009 and prepare
for 2010 Board Elections for CCM. We will need a new Social Director for next
year 2010. This will be my last year.

Upcoming Events on the schedule
March 25th Kart to Kart,
11am
Come out and tune up your racing skills at Kart to Kart, with a

for a lighter one.) No need to sign up, just be ready to race. They have
helmets to use at no additional fee, otherwise bring your own.
Kart to Kart is located in Sterling Heights on Van Dyke just south
of 19 mile rd, on the west side of the street. See you there. Come out and
watch if you don’t wish to race.
Our Passport Tours are being organized. You
will need a Passport to gain entry into our destinations. We will have them

volunteers for our Autocross dates; even if you don’t race you can earn
worker points and be involved. Check the competition schedule for dates.
Still
to put on the calendar are a Golf Outing and fun night out in mid week
during the summer.
I would
like input as to locations North, Eastside, Westside and Downriver to where
we can meet on a monthly basis - kind of a "show up and cruise to" place. If
you know of a good place, Dairy Queens or Drive Ins where we can gather let

May. Suggested times would be:

These would just be a show up event, just a place to gather and do some

March 2006
The Annual Banquet for 2005 was a festive celebration of Corvette camaraderie. If you missed it, mark your calendar for Jan 20th 2007 for the next banquet.
We have planned many events for the upcoming year. First event:
March 25th Kart to Kart 11am
Its time to tune those racing skills and competitive drive as we start with pre season racing. No sign up, just be ready to race.
Joe Thomas was planning to lead a caravan to the museum in April for the Bash. He has had a work commitment come up and cannot attend. If interested in attending contact Joe or Dave Krom. Dave will already be at the museum earlier in the week. They both have details on rooms and activities. See flyer in SlipStream.
We have progressed from our Slider Drives to the Le Tour De Vette Deli Cruises – now is the time to take you around the World as we plan our Passport Tour. We will be going to various ethnic restaurants in the metro area. Passports will be available, get them stamped for entrance to them. The dates have been set, just need to confirm locations, times. Updates in next issue and on web site. Mark your calendar for the following dates. These will be early evening or mid-afternoon cruises.

I like to plan a golf outing if there is interest, contact Kerry asap so that we can get this on our schedule.
For those that don’t have the full golf game, we’d like to do a mid week fun event at a miniature golf course. Again contact Kerry with level of interest.

October 2005
The Breadbasket Deli/Model A cruise offered up the chance to check out the modern and the very old. The Model A’s outnumbered the vettes nine to four but the total horsepower of the Model A’s didn’t equal that of the vettes. After enjoying huge sandwich portions, we were preparing to cruise to Ritters Ice Cream for dessert, one of the Model A’s would not start. It took about 30 minutes for the team of owners to have this car up and running. They come prepared with additional parts and equipment to make necessary repairs along the road. Talk about an open engine compartment. After testing and replacing the distributor, checking the electrical system it was time to roll. At Ritters it looked like old vs. new, as the cars lined up. We voted on each others cars for best of show. The car of Bill and Paula Gattis-1930 Deluxe Roadster – Kerry and Denise Hlady-1966 Convertible were the winners. Stay tuned for updates for a Bowtie and Blue Oval gathering Vettes vs. Mustangs in 2006. Thanks to Mark and Kaye Campagnoli for coordinating the Model A’s.
Our evening at the GM Heritage Museum had a decent turnout of about 45 people. We were given a brief overview of the facility. They had close to 200 cars inside from the common to the very rare, some concept vehicles like the three Firebirds which don’t look like the Firebird we know today. The cars change weekly with about 50 or so staying put. This helps keep the collection fresh and with new additions you don’t know what you are going to see. If you missed this year’s event, we’ll look to do it again next year.
The Dinner Cruise to Aleko’s was an enjoyable drive through the country side. Add a little rain in Farmington Hills which didn’t dampen the spirit of the 12 vettes that made the journey. They were joined at the resturauant by a couple more vettes for an excellent meal. Thanks to Tom Kania for leading this cruise.
We finished the Deli Cruises season this year the same way we had started by meeting at Les Stanford and cruising to our location. Lile’s Ham Sandwich in Dearborn was our destination as we wrap up the Deli scene. Frank and Lynn Massucci 05 and Darren Humphries 02 won best of cruise. Congrats to both.
Check the web site for photos of the Cruises and GM Heritage Museum.
As mentioned last month we’d like to take you around the world to experience the best the area has. If you have a favorite ethnic restaurant that you think is the best let me know so that we can add to the list. We are planning to do one a month starting in January, during the winter months- we will meet at the resturauant – nicer months cruise to locations. Have heard from a few members with ideas, keep them coming. Kerry 734 502 7103c

September 2005
The Dreamcruise was a busy weekend of activities. Overall a successful event with a few interruptions with the weather. We were busy a couple of times drying off the cars on Friday and Saturday. Ray and Nina Gonzales '64 red coupe took "Best of Show Honors". Al Nagy’s '03 Anniversary Red Convertible was chosen as the "Tennis and Golf Company’s Host Award". Congrats to both as these were great examples of old and new.
The site, food, great cars and the opportunity to cruise was enjoyed by all. We had some long distance members attend Dr. Bruce Rowland from Ky., Joe Thomas and Jennifer Everhart from Okemos. Look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s event.

August 2005
The past couple of weeks have been filled with activities. Cruises, competition and the picnic have kept us very busy. The picnic was a great success - great food, plenty of cars, games for kids and just hanging out with friends talking about Vettes. Thanks to the Jutras' and Watson's for organizing and ordering great weather.
We just completed two Le tour de Vette deli cruises:
The Stage Deli in West Bloomfield offered up a complete menu, and very large portions. We then cruised to the Dairy Queen in Keego Harbor for some Blizzards and sundaes. Awards for people choice were handed out to Ted & Laura Hou, there is something about red cars, and Frank and Lynn Massucci, this time they brought their very new 05. Congrats to both.
Ridley Deli in Troy was our next tour stop and they offered a diverse menu, not like a regular deli, breads and pastries in abundance. From here we cruised to the Dairy Queen in Rochester for cones and sundaes. Carol Glowacki in 02 Blue convertible was best of the cruise. Congrats.
Coming up in Sept. we've got some excellent events planned.
Sept 17 Alekos Dinner Cruise to Hamburg.
Sept 24 Bread Basket Deli with the Motor Cities Model A Club, Livonia
Sept 27 GM Heritage Museum, Warren
Sept 28 General Meeting at Werner Meier Master Work Shop Madison Heights
Planning for next year's social cruises, we like to take everyone around the world. So check to see if your passport is current as we cruise to dine at your favorite ethnic restaurants in the area. Each month we will cruise to a different nationally. Your input of your favorite restaurant is needed. Email or phone call or see at meetings. These will start in January 06 , evening dinners, Fri., Sat. Sun.

JULY 2005
The
calendar has been full with activities both social and competition within
CCM and all of the cruise events around. It’s nice to see increased
participation. Follow-up from past cruise events.
From
Mark Eissler who led the Return to Yesterday’s Collection:
We
had been eagerly awaiting the return of spring, as April had been cold and
wet. The gently warm days
with the cooling breezes, the low humidity and the warming sunshine.
Ahh, May. None of
these things were available to us as we met on Sunday May 1st
for the Return to Yesterday Sundae Drive.
What the heck!? It was cold and it threatened to rain. We gathered at Noon in the parking lot of the Standard
Federal Bank at 5 Mile and Beck Roads in Plymouth and shivered in the
breeze as we chatted together and waited for our fellow Club members to
arrive. Many of us retreated to our cars to get out of the cold.
Some of us ventured across the street to the Shell station or to
McDonald’s to pass the time. Finally, at the appointed time, our cruise director called us
out of our Corvettes for the Driver’s Meeting.
After that, we lined up and headed off for a nice cruise and the
ice cream in Ann Arbor.
Our
drive to Yesterday’s Collection was about 1 hour and 30 minutes because
we did not use M-14 (the most direct route). After all, we wanted an
enjoyable drive in the countryside, not a blitz down the freeway!
We left Plymouth heading west on North Territorial.
We crossed Pontiac Trail, and then further on, US 23.
Continuing west on North Territorial past the Metropark and lakes
area where the road gets nice and curvy, until it ended at M-52.
There, we turned south and drove through beautiful downtown
Chelsea. Anyone looking for a
great meal at a cozy restaurant will want to frequent the Common Grill
right there in downtown Chelsea. (If
you’re lucky, you might see Jeff Daniels walk in as you are finishing
your coffee.)
Continuing
south on M-52 out of downtown Chelsea, we crossed I-94, and drove through
rolling farmland until we reached Scio-Church Road.
Here we turned left, heading east toward our goal.
At Zeeb Road we turned north and traveled to Jackson Road.
Making a “Michigan left” onto Jackson Road, we were delivered
to Yesterday’s Collection in good order.
Once inside we were amazed at the selection of automotive
memorabilia, model cars, books, posters and other collectibles available
for our perusal and purchase. And
then there was the full service soda fountain in the ice cream parlor!
Banana Splits and Hot Fudge Sundaes were just some of the creations
served up by the friendly staff behind the counter. Our return to
Yesterdays was a great combination of seeing our fellow Club Members,
cruising on some great roads, eating tasty ice cream treats and visiting
with old friends. It may have
been cold outside, but we were warmed by our common bonds, a love for
Corvettes and a love for ice cream! We
left Yesterday’s Collection, looking forward to the day we return again.
From
Mike Cohen, leader of the
Cruise for Food:
Our
June Membership Meeting, "The Food Cruise" was a great time.
There were 12 cars total, 11 of which were Corvettes, departing from Royal
Oak on a trip to Harrison Township and Eddy's Drive-In. There we met
up with members from the east side and we totaled 14 Vettes. It just so
happened there was a cruise event in St. Clair Shores going on that night,
so there were many hot rods and classics at the drive-in along with the
Vettes. We departed Eddy's for a trip to Mastros Ice Cream for some yummy
Stroh’s ice cream and there we were - right in the middle of a cool
cruise event. We all stayed till close to dark, eating ice cream and
lookin’ at cool cars.
Cruise
to the Copper Pickle:
led by Tom and Bridget
We
held a people’s choice contest, and Jim and Ellen McLaughlin’s ‘67
big block walked away with the honors. 9 cars were ready to roll. The day
was hot and the sky blue, a great day for a cruise as we headed out from
Northville on Seven Mile to D-19. Heading North to Howell we enjoyed the
many sites and views of the countryside on this 40+ mile drive to the
Copper Pickle. After enjoying a bowl of dill pickle soup and a sandwich we
departed to Ritter’s Ice Cream in Brighton, where we met up with fellow
CCM members on the way home from auto crossing. Soup,
sandwich, ice cream and friends and great way to spend an afternoon.
It’s nice to too see more of you at these events.
Thanks to Mark, Mike, Tom
& Bridget for leading these drives.

From Robert House and his
trip south to the races at Mid Ohio: All Corvette drivers were treated
like royalty. The combination of Corvette Corral, talk about the C6 Z06 by
David Hill, opportunity to drive the course behind the Corvette pace car,
and the pit pass (good for all the time except immediately before and
during races). I wasn't sure I should go to the races Sunday, since I more
than got my money's worth on Saturday! It certainly made me proud to be
part of the Corvette team to be able to talk about Corvette with such
friendly people as David Hill and the Corvette drivers. Oh yeah, there was
an ALMS race, too. Corvette C6R's first and second in GT-1.

cars taking in the new/used vettes on the lot and then traveling over to

tester of Pastrami sandwiches. Look for her results at the end of the Tour.
Taking the peoples choice award was a tie between new and older, Mike Tetreault
and Laura Tomcheson very new 05 black coupe and Mike Cohen in his excellent

On Saturday, 25 September, the Club visited with our friends at Yesterday’s Collection in Ann Arbor. We met in the parking lot of Standard Federal Bank at 5 Mile and Beck in Plymouth. We had 10 cars in our group, ranging from Zippy’s (and Mrs. Zippy’s) brand new C6 to Ken and Diane Watson’s beautiful ’67 roadster. Mark Eissler was our cruise leader for the day.
Our drive to Yesterday’s Collection was about 1 hour and 30 minutes because we did not use M-14 (the most direct route). After all, we wanted an enjoyable drive in the countryside, not a blitz down the freeway! We left Plymouth heading west on North Territorial. We crossed Pontiac Trail, and US 23. Continuing west on North Territorial past the Metro park and lakes area where the road gets nice and curvy, until it ended at M-52. There, we turned south and drove through beautiful downtown Chelsea. Crossing I-94, we continued south through farmland until we reached Scio-Church Road. Here we turned left, heading east toward our goal. At Zeeb Road we turned north and traveled to Jackson Road. Making a “Michigan left” onto Jackson Road, we were delivered to Yesterday’s Collection in good order.
Once
inside we were amazed at the selection of automotive memorabilia, model
cars, books, posters and other collectibles available for our perusal and
purchase. And then was the full
service soda fountain in the ice cream parlor!
Banana Splits and Hot Fudge Sundaes were just some of the creations
served up by the friendly staff behind the counter. Our return to
Yesterday was great combination of seeing our fellow Club Members,
cruising on some great roads, eating tasty ice cream treats and visiting
with old friends. We left
Yesterday’s Collection, looking forward to the day we return again.
Thanks to Mark for chairing this cruise.
Upcoming
events

mini bike group earlier in the day to 1pm. Come early and check out the

display your driving skills and see who still has those cat like reflexes,
the need for speed and the lowest ET. No sign up is needed just show up.
There is some construction at 18 ˝ mile and Van Dyke.
Location is just south of 19 mile

The
Annual Picnic was a tremendous success. The committee arranged for great
weather. Thank you to the Jutras’s and the Watson’s for organizing a
gala event. Bob Jutras again did a great job of handling the barbeque, Jim
Farless had a huge turnout for the Concurs, and awards will be presented
at the next membership meeting. Thanks for the judges whom volunteered
there time. A great time all
kids and family’s, look to you at next year’s picnic.
The
Dreamcruise had great weather for Saturday; Friday evening was a little
damp for awhile. We had a successful turnout not only for CCM but the
event itself. Goodie bags and
Door Prizes were awarded to all. We had guests this year from around the
USA; Dave Krom's brother came in from Anchorage. Bob Philaj’s son came
in from Denver and a long distance member Kentucky - Bruce Rowland. We
truly had an American event. From the burning rubber to the aroma of the
grill and the smoked food we had a great time. Thanks go to Meguiar’s,
Stoner Cleaners, Hemmings, Sunset Sportswear, and Sazerac – Mark Schorer who donated
items for our event. A special thanks go to Denise Hlady for her cookies,
to Cathy Cohen for her macaroni salad and to Paul Woolner who made the
hang tags and art work. We enjoyed a day of sun, great food and best of
all hanging out with members and enjoying the view.
Our
people’s choice award this year goes to Dennis Sierens with his very
clean and nicely appointed Z06. Dave, owner of the Tennis and Golf Company
picked the coupe of Jennifer Everhart and Joe Thomas as his choice as
vendor award. We had a sold out lot with 30 cars. Thanks to all who came
and enjoyed our lot. Look forward to seeing all of you next year for
another exciting Dreamcruise.

Two
big events have passed in June
- the National Convention which
I heard was a smashing success and our annual cruise for food – The

Cruise, Mike Cowan won the people's
choice award with his 1980 Yellow Coupe. Dave Krom also picked up some
additional cleaning materials as he came in second. We then enjoyed a
drive to Northville for dessert.

SOCIAL - CRUISE UPDATES
In this month’s issue is a cruise night/day page of local bars – restaurants that hold events. I know of only one Vette only place and that is at the Central City Dinner in Canton on Canton Center Rd. on the second Tuesday of the month. Would be nice to fill the lot with CCM members. If you know of a place and it is not listed let me know so that we can get it included on the page.
The Brunch at the Fox and Hounds Inn had a slim turnout - the weather was rainy and very cool which led to poor showing. Ken and Diane Watson won the people’s choice award for his ‘67 blue Vette.
Upcoming:
May 31 Americas Corvette Car Club Show CauleysKeep in mind the annual picnic in August, we are always looking for volunteers, contact any board member.
The Gratiot Cruise update - we do have spot in August. Details in next issue

It’s
time to be thinking of pulling back that cover on the car and get in shape
(wax on/wax off) for the upcoming season of activities. I’ve compiled a
list of activities that are planned for this year. If you have suggestions
or ideas for locations or an event please contact me and we’ll get them
on the calendar.
As
the car show schedule develops we will have a chart of the local car
events that are held weekly. If you know of any local establishments that
are planning on holding weekly or monthly cruise nights, forward that info
to me so that I can get on our chart.
The
club has many other opportunities in which you can (be
sociable ) cruise to, to observe, to volunteer your time to help run
events (we always looking for assistance at events the more help we have
the smoother they run) and you might find yourself participating. This is
an excellent way to be involved in the club and to meet new people. You
may choose to attend the many autocross and drag events that CCM Hosts.
What a great way to spend a few hours
enjoying
watching our fellow club members navigating a road course and
improving their times as well as their skills..
In
March we’re planning to go to Kart to Kart. I need to know the level of
interest and those that are planning to attend. It’s at 3pm, and the
cost is around $ 50 for three sessions. If you would like to attend to
brush up on your driving skills, learn new techniques or just come on out
and have some fun. I need to have the number attending by March 10, so
please let me know.
Joe
Thomas is leading a group to attend the C5-C6 Birthday Bash in Bowling
Green, Ky. April 21.
What a great way to celebrate this event by attending, touring the
museum and participating in the many events that they have planned to
conduct.
Coming
up in July in Windsor, Ontario is the NCRS National Convention. I am
looking for someone to lead a group over. This is a fantastic opportunity
to learn more about your car, restoration techniques and car care in
general. The location is close to use just across the river.
The
Slider Drives – Cruise together from a central location or on your own.
Then we will continue on for ice cream or desert. If you know of a famous
or not so famous eatery that you think we’d enjoy going to let’s get
it on the calendar and see which restaurant has the best slider.
The
Brunch Drive to the Fox & Hound Inn located in Bloomfield Hills, 10am
brunch then we’ll take a cruise around some of the surrounding lakes in
the local area. A very nice way to start your Sunday. The cost would be
around 15-20 per person. More details to follow.
At
this time I am waiting to hear back from the Golf Course with the cost and
times.
I
am looking for people to join the social committee to assist with the many
events we’ve planned for this year. Look me up at the meetings or give
me a call.

The April Sundae Drive to Yesterday’s Collection was a great success! With the spring weather finally here, we met at the Home Depot in Plymouth and hung around their parking lot until departure time. There were about 25 Corvettes that gathered for the caravan out to Ann Arbor. For a while it looked like we were holding a Monthly Meeting right there. In fact, there were so many Corvettes in the parking lot that the manager of the store came out and asked what was going on. After a brief driver’s meeting, we all lined up on the exit road and “headed out on the highway”.
The drive was mostly freeway and in about 25 minutes we had arrived at our destination: Yesterday’s Collection. Inside we were greeted by the owner and the friendly staff. Some of us headed straight to the ice cream counter to enjoy those sundaes and other treats. Others browsed the shelves stocked with Corvette and other car merchandise. Even Dave Krom joined us on his way back from the C5 weekend at the National Corvette Museum. I was enjoying my hot fudge sundae (small, made with 3 scoops of ice cream, yikes!!) with the Ek’s when the Jackson chapter of the Model T club arrived. They brought six T’s with them. Meanwhile, our Members were all over Yesterday’s. We toured the auto museum behind the ice cream counter. Suzanne Lees was out in front with the hood to her ’82 Collector’s Edition open. Ted Godett was conducting an inspection of the engine bay. Jonelle Flannery was showing off her new exhaust pipes by “rapping” them for us. Mary Wentzel had 3 generations of her family with her. The Parents and the Firments were in deep conversation. Slowly, as folks finished their ice cream and completed their shopping, they headed out for home or wherever their Corvette was going to take them. I slipped behind the wheel of my Corvette, brought the engine to life and pointed the nose east. We’ll return to Yesterday’s Collection and when we do, I hope you’ll join us.
Upcoming
Social Events:
June 7. The Corvette Encounter, Saturday, June 7, at Les Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn, Mi. this is our “Really Big Show”, so shine ‘em up and bring ’em out.

All right, I was wrong!! Very wrong. In last month's column, I had hoped for the last of winter’s weather. That hope, as we all know, was shattered by the icy return of freezing rain and 4 or more inches of snow. I hope all of you are reading this by the light of incandescent bulb and not by candle light.
Well, we did it. About 20 Members of Corvette Club of Michigan came out to Dave and Buster’s in Utica for our Social Season Opener. Joining us were Ken and Diane Watson, Bruce and Mary Wentzel along with granddaughter Crystal, Dyan and Dave Janowitz, Carole Koneig, Gary Westrick and Cindy, Jan Skiles, Paul Woolner and his son Chase, Dave Krom, Bob and Pat Jutras, Carl and Carolyn Polomski, and Pam Dansbury. We had good food and great visits, then we got down to business on the video racing games. Everybody had a great time.
Coming up yet in April CCM will caravan out to Ann Arbor on a Sundae Drive to Yesterday’s Collection. Hopefully this year we will have warmer weather to enjoy our drive and make the ice cream taste better. There is a flier in this issue of SlipStream. The date is April 27; the time to meet is 1:30 PM. The assembly point will be the Home Depot parking lot at the corner of 5 Mile and Beck. We will drive out to Ann Arbor as a caravan! Caravaning with a group of Corvettes is always a fun thing to do. I still love the looks we get from other drivers as a Corvette caravan drives by. I am looking forward to a Hot Fudge Sundae at the end of this caravan! Won’t you join us?
Upcoming
Social Events:
April 27. The Sundae Drive returns. Cruise to Yesterdays Collection on Jackson Road in Ann Arbor.

As
I write this, the Detroit area has just been blasted by what will
hopefully be the final icy blast of the 2002 / 2003 winter!
It seems hard to believe that in just 2 weeks we will hold our
annual Driver’s School for our incoming group of rookie autocrossers. So, to sharpen our stagnated driving skills, it is time for
the Corvette Club of Michigan “Season Kick-off” gathering.
We’re heading back to Dave & Buster’s in Utica and their
“Million Dollar Midway”. It’ll
be on Saturday 22 March at 2:00 PM. Be sure to bring your (virtual) driving skills and wads of cash to
test the mettle of your fellow Club Members on the linked NASCAR racing
games. Look for the flier in
this month's issue of SlipStream for all the “racy” details.
Then,
in April CCM will caravan
out to Ann Arbor on a Sundae Drive to Yesterday’s Collection.
Hopefully this year we will have warmer weather to enjoy our drive
and make the ice cream taste better. There
is a flier in this month's issue of SlipStream. The date is April
27; the time to meet is 1:30 PM. The
assembly point will be the Home Depot parking lot at the corner of 5 Mile
and Beck. We will drive out to Ann
Arbor as a caravan! Caravaning with a group of Corvettes is always a fun thing to
do. I still love the looks we get from other drivers as a Corvette caravan
drives by. I am looking forward to
a Hot Fudge Sundae at the end of this caravan!
Won’t you join us?

Woodward Dream Cruise! A very heartfelt "Thank You!" to Kerry Hlady and Paul Woolner for the great job they did organizing our day at the Dream Cruise! We had front row seats to the greatest car enthusiast event in Michigan. We enjoyed reserved parking for our Corvettes, space for our lawn chairs under a tent to keep us out of the sun, and unobstructed views of all the great cars that braved the bumper to bumper crawl that was the Dream Cruise.
As soon as I pulled into the lot, a huge goodie bag was handed to me through the window. I swear it weighed 20 pounds! As promised, we could leave the lot when we wanted to join in the cruising, and return to our spots afterward. Others of us just hoofed it to the shuttle buses and rode along on the free transportation. Dave of the Tennis and Golf Company really made us feel at home, too. While we relaxed on the lawn watching the spectacle, he was busy running the gas grill cooking our food. There was a choice of Italian sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken breast sandwiches. There were beverages and desserts to enjoy, too. Somehow, Kerry conned his wife into making brownies for us. They were great! Oh, we even got door prizes too! Kerry was collecting some really great free stuff for us throughout the past year, just to make our Dream Cruise that much better. I almost needed a trailer to bring all my goodies home! Everybody had a great time. I cant wait until next year so we can do it again!
Our Social Calendar is winding down. As you can see, we have whittled down the list of Social Events remaining for 2002. Your next opportunity to gather with us and go cruising is on Sunday 13 October. Cher Ketelhut is taking us on an "Octoberfest Cruise" to Frankenmuth! Our starting point will be the 3M Building on Victor Parkway in Livonia. 3M is just north of the Rio Bravo Restaurant in Livonia at 7 Mile and I-275. Victor Parkway is the first traffic light east of I-275. Its real easy to get there and the 3M Building is very easy to find. Meet up at 11:00 AM. We will have short drivers meeting at 11:10 AM and then were on the road at 11:15! A Chicken Dinner is the usual staple at the Bavarian Inn (our lunch destination). Well be eating together, but after dinner, you are free to "do" Frankenmuth according to your whims. Individual departure from Frankenmuth after dinner and shopping. We moved this cruise into October so we hope the weather will be a little warmer than the last time we went to Frankenmuth. Oh, Cher says Corvettes are optional in case you have already put your car away for the winter. Be sure to reserve your spot on this cruise by calling Cher (her number is in the Member Directory or on the flier in this Month's SlipStream) with the number in your party. We do owe the restaurant a head count of our group so they plan for us. I hope you will join us.
Upcoming CCM Social Events:
October 13: Cruise to Frankenmuth. Sunday. Check SlipStream for the Event Flier. Cher Ketelhut will be leading us to the town where theres always a Chicken Dinner. Please make plans to join us!
December: Remember, NO General Membership Meeting in December.
January 11, 2003: Annual CCM Awards Banquet and Dinner Dance. Laurel Manor, Livonia. Awesome food, awesome awards, awesome celebrity guest(s), awesome fun.

Annual
CCM Family Picnic, Sunday 04 August.
Our Club Picnic at Maybury State Park, was a great success!
Thanks to Pat Jutras, Picnic Chairperson and her army of
enthusiastic helpers, we all had a great day.
Our thanks go out to Tom Kania for getting the beverages, Bob
Jutras for chasing ice and for cooking over the hot coals, Kaye and Glenn
Simms and Ken and Diane Watson for all their help.
And thanks to Jim and Debbie from Dundee for shucking the corn (and
for helping to eat it, too!). Thank you Chris and Bret Watson for going on that ice run for
us. And thanks to all of you
who came to the picnic with your dish to pass.
I enjoyed many eats and sweets.
It looked like the kids had a great time too. After covering themselves in birdseed in search of coins,
they participated in a staggering array of games and made off with a cache
of prizes. Ken Watson
coordinated the tricycle autocross for the kids.
And he left his 1967 Corvette convertible at home just in case I
was really serious about having the kids disassemble it as part of the
days activities! I think
everyone had fun. It was
great to see all the clean Corvettes from the mornings concourse.
I got to catch up with Keith and Kathy Tappen, talk to Jim Farless,
meet Dave Kroms daughters and grandchildren, see Kaye and Glenn Simms
(whove been too long absent from our gatherings), get chided by Paula
and Art Fulkerson to help out more, watch Marty and John Firment run for
FTD on the egg-autocross circuit, talk about drag cars with Dewey Burton,
enjoy the 3-legged races, discuss upcoming vacations with Rick and Diane
Parent, chat with Jan and Marge Millen, notice that Nikki Ketlehut had
grown about a foot since the last time we saw her and generally, really
enjoy the day! I hope your
picnic was as much fun as mine was. I
cant wait until next years picnic.
Woodward Dream Cruise!
16 and 17 August.
By the time you read this, we will have enjoyed our gathering at
the 8th Dream Cruise. Kerry
Hlady and Paul Woolner put their heads together and what resulted was a
blast! Check in next month
for a full report.

June Cruise Night
About 45 Members of Corvette Club of Michigan braved the
threatening weather and the absolutely horrible traffic to have a really
good time at the Annual Cruise Night! I left my house with every intention of being at the meeting
point to welcome the 1st to arrive.
As it turned out, I was the last to arrive! Rain fell on my previously clean Corvette while I crept
through traffic snarled by the rain and an accident.
But what a pay off for those that did attend! The skies cleared, the humidity lifted and we were blessed
with a picture perfect evening. The
cruise left the Meijers lot heading west on Grand River. We paraded through New Hudson on our way out to Kensington
Road. We took Kensington
north to the west entrance of Kensington Metro Park.
Once in the Park, the Cruise slowed to the Park speed limit,
letting us enjoy the beauty of the Park.
We took the north route around the Lake and turned onto the drive
that would take us out to the flag pole.
As we rounded the flag pole, each cruiser got the chance to see and
wave to all the other Corvettes on the Cruise.
We exited the Park at Milford Road and turned into Bakers of
Milford parking lot. As
promised, the car crazy staff of Bakers of Milford had our special
Corvette Corral parking area waiting for us.
We sat at the outdoor tables along the south side of the building.
Some members of CCM elected to meet us at Bakers, so they were
already there. The rest of
the evening was spent enjoying the company of our fellow CCM Members, good
food and cold beverages. The
skies remained clear while we dined and the sunset was beautiful.
In fact, it was such a treat of an evening that I did something I
rarely do. I took the top out
of my Corvette and drove home enjoying the open air.
Chalk up another great June Cruise Night for us.
I hope you will join us on our next Cruise in July along Hines
Drive.
The Hines Drive Cruise, Sunday
21 July.
Jan Skiles is our Cruise Director for this fun Sunday
afternoon of cruisen on Hines Drive and eatn in Northville.
She has picked out our starting point near the east end of Hines
Drive and selected our destination, Deadwood Bad and Grill, near the west
end of the Drive in Northville.
So please plan on joining your fellow Club members on this fun
drive through Hines Park. Look
for the event flier in this issue of SlipStream.
Annual CCM Family Picnic,
Sunday 04 August.
Our Club Picnic will be at Maybury State Park, Walnut Shelter, on
Eight Mile Road on the west side of Northville.
Our Competion Committee will be conducting the CCM Concourse
earlier in day, so there will be some very clean Corvettes to enjoy.
As usual, with an event this big and this important, we need your
help to pull it off. Pat
Jutras will be our Picnic Chairperson.
We will need help with set-up, cooking, and tear down.
Board Member Tom Kania has agreed to get the beverages to the
picnic. But we really need help planning and conducting childrens
activities and games in the mid-afternoon.
If you plan to bring your children to the picnic and you have some
fun childrens activities in mind, please consider helping with this fun
part of our Family Day. Contact
Mark Eissler, CCM Social Director or Pat Jutras, Picnic Chair if you can
help.

The
Sundae Drive.
On 21
April several of our hardier Club Members gathered at the Compuware Ice
Arena on Beck Road in Plymouth in anticipation of our Sundae Drive to
Yesterdays Collection in Ann Arbor.
The weather wasnt exactly ice cream weather.
Many of us jumped back into our heated Corvettes to avoid the
shivers. But the chilly
weather was braved for as long as it took to conduct the Drivers
Meeting. There was some
consternation that maps were not provided to the group.
And there were even a few complaints about the quality of the
verbal route instructions that were given.
Well, all I can say is, I knew exactly were I was going.
A straight shot west on M-14 to westbound I-94 to the Zeeb Road
exit. From there it was just
a dash through the construction pylons to westbound Jackson Road.
About a quarter of a mile on we came to Yesterdays Collection. After performing the mandatory Back-in Parking Maneuver
and watching the Corvette High Performance braking systems in action, we
walked into the store. My
first impression was Fantastic and my eyes just about jumped out of
their sockets as I gazed at row after row and aisle after aisle of car and
bike and internal combustion engine driven stuff!
Die cast car models in a range of sizes and prices and types. Tin signs. Collectible
and commemorative knives. Neon
signs. Gas pump globes.
Elvis stuff, Betty Boop stuff, poster stuff, book stuff, hang on
the wall stuff, set on the shelf stuff.
You name it they probably have it stuff!
I think I spent 45 minutes or more wandering the aisles and looking
at everything. And then it
was time for the true test of Yesterdays Collections reputation.
The ice cream sundae. Hot
fudge, please. Made with three scoops of vanilla, a sprinkle of nuts and a
little whip cream. It was great! The
hot fudge was thick and creamy. The
vanilla had that old fashioned, genuine vanilla bean flavor. Laurie and I enjoyed our ice cream in the soda fountain area
of the store. We watched many
of our fellow club members come in with their purchases and line up to
order ice cream. When our
sundaes were finished, we realized that we had not yet seen all there was
to see. Behind the ice cream
parlor was the museum. There
was a small selection of cars on display.
A brass era car, a 61 Corvette and a couple of late 50s
passenger cars. All of them looked to be in top-notch condition.
The display area was purposely painted to give the illusion of
greater depth. The back wall
had 2 garage doors in it, but the wall and the doors were painted with a
mural depicting a late 50s or early 60s repair shop.
It was very convincing and I enjoyed seeing it.
Having exhausted everything there was to look at and having stuffed
ourselves with ice cream sundaes, it was time to head for home. Laurie and
I said our good-byes and walked out into the light drizzle to our
Corvette. We drove home to
the steady rhythm of the windshield wipers clearing the rain from our
view. It had been a very
enjoyable afternoon.
June Cruise Night
The arrangements are finalized!
Please join us on Wednesday 26 June as Corvette Club of Michigan
sets out on our annual Cruise Night.
Remember, this will take the place of our June General Membership
Meeting. So dont go to Les
Stanford Chevrolet on the 4th Wendesday of June, unless
you want to buy a car! We
plan to cruise through some scenic Michigan countryside and Kennsington
Metro Park to end up at Bakers of Milford.
Here are some important points.
Due to construction on Grand River in Novi and generally increasing
traffic congestion, the starting point for our Cruise is moved to the
west. We will meet in the
west end of the parking lot for the Meijer store on Grand River just west
of Wixom Road in Wixom. To
get there, take I-96 to the Wixom road exit.
Go south to Grand River. Turn
right (west) and go about a quarter mile to the traffic light at the
entrance to the Meijer parking lot. Turn
right into the lot. Look for
us on your left in the west end of the lot.
Arrive at the starting point at 6:00 PM.
We want to start our cruise at 6:20 PM.
Kennsington Metro Park will charge each of us $2.00 / car to enter
the Park, if the attendant is on duty! So
please be prepared to pay the attendant, if present, when you get to the
booth. The Park is beautiful
and you may even discover a new spot to bring your family in the future.
Bakers
has arranged for special Corvette only parking in their lot.
And if the weather is clear, we will get to sit outside at the
tables on the side of the building. We
can choose from 4 entrees prepared just for us and the beverage of your
choice. (Hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken and Italian sausage, if I
remember my conversation with Mr. Baker correctly.)
And remember there is a Dairy Queen directly across Milford Road
from Bakers. Pre-registration
is not required for the Cruise Night, just join us at the assembly point. I hope to see you there.
Annual CCM Family Picnic
With the return of warm weather its not too early to be planning
to attend our annual Family Picnic. It
will be on Sunday 4 August at Maybury State Park, Walnut Shelter, on Eight
Mile Road on the west side of Northville.
Our Competion Committee will be conducting the CCM Concours earlier
in day, so there will be some very
clean Corvettes to enjoy. As
usual, with an event this big and this important, we need your help to
pull it off. Pat Jutras will
be our Picnic Chairperson. We
will need help with set-up, cooking, and tear down.
But we really need help
planning and conducting childrens activities and games in the
mid-afternoon. If you plan to bring your children to the picnic and you have
some fun childrens activities in mind, please consider helping with
this fun part of our Family Day. Contact
Mark Eissler, CCM Social Director or Pat Jutras, Picnic Chair if you can
help. Otherwise, Ill be
bringing my wrenches and well let the kids disassemble Ken Watsons
beautiful 1967, Concours winning Roadster.

Bahh April! What was I asking for last month? Not the April we got, thats for sure! Silly me, I just assumed that since we were having a mild second half to our winter, it would just warm right up and be even more mild.
Reminder: Please plan on joining Corvette Club of Michigan on Sunday April 21st for a "Sundae Drive" to Yesterdays Collection in Ann Arbor. Ahh April! At last! March has thankfully gone out like a Lion/Lamb (it doesnt mater, as long as it goes) and it couldnt be too soon! Spring and blossoming Corvettes surround us. March was busy at Corvette Club of Michigan. Hang-on and follow along if you can.
The evening of March 2nd, NCCC Michigan Region Clubs and their members gather at the Double Tree Hotel in Novi for the 2001 NCCC Michigan Region Awards Banquet. The host club was Americas Corvette Club out of Broomfield Hills. We enjoyed fine food, good company and dancing. Corvette Club of Michigan was the top-scoring Club in Michigan Region in 2001. (Incidentally, we were the second highest scoring Club in the nation!) Congratulations to all of the winners! And thanks to all of our Club members who got out there last year and competed in or worked on NCCC sanctioned events. Your efforts counted and helped to make CCM a standout points scoring Club last year.
On March 23rd, we went to Dave & Busters in Utica and had a dandy time meeting and greeting our fellow members. The food was good, the drinks were cold and the video games were awesome! It is hard to describe the "Million Dollar Midway" if you havent been there. This place is huge! It is filled with Video and non-Video games. As full of games as it is, there is still room for a 40 foot, 2-sided, sit down bar in the middle. And there are booths and tables throughout the Midway. Well, we abused the NASCAR linked video games, as is our custom. Dave and Busters thoughtfully placed closed circuit TV cameras on each of these games to capture each contestants facial expressions as they raced! TV monitors were located on top of each game station for those in the room not racing to laugh at! What a great time we had!
So, whats next? Im glad you asked! Please plan on joining Corvette Club of Michigan on Sunday April 21st for a "Sundae Drive" to Yesterdays Collection in Ann Arbor. They bill themselves as "Michigans largest retail source for automobile memorabilia". They have an automobile museum and they have an Ice Cream Parlor attached to their establishment! (Hence the name Sundae Drive, clever, huh?) Well, they also sell die cast model cars, tin signs and host car shows through the warm months. We will meet on the west of Plymouth at the Compuware Ice Arena and caravan out to Yesterdays Collection as a group. Look for the event flier elsewhere in this issue of SlipStream. (If you live way out west, feel free to meet us Yesterdays. See the event flier to plan your rendezvous time. Meanwhile, check out Yesterdays Collections website: www.yesterdayscollection.com . Im looking forward to seeing you on April 21st.

March 2002
Its (almost) March and that means time is drawing near for the Corvette Club of Michigan "Season Kick-off" gathering at a local watering hole. This year were going the East Side! Were heading to Dave & Busters in Utica and their "Million Dollar Midway". Itll be on Saturday 23 March this year so as not to interfere with the rain date for the Drivers School. Be sure to bring your (virtual) driving skills and wads of cash to test the mettle of your fellow Club Members on the linked NASCAR racing games. If you tire of beating up on lesser drivers, you can try your skill at flying airplanes, driving a Taxi, piloting a Jet-ski or being a marksman. Look for the flier in this month's issue of SlipStream for the details.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is my
pleasure to address you as Social Director for your Club.
My aim for 2002 is to build on the groundwork we laid with our 2000
and 2001 Social Activities. Today,
the entire year lies before us. Let
me outline some of the Social Activities already planned.
In March look for the Season Kick-off gathering at a local watering hole. Traditionally, the Club has used restaurants that have exciting video games available in a game room. This year we plan to be on the East Side for our Season Kick-off.
In June we traditionally use our General Meeting as a Cruise Night. We plan to do the same this year, too.
Our Club Picnic
will be August 4th
at Maybury State Park in Northville. We have reserved the Walnut Shelter
for our use. The Competition
Committee has scheduled our annual Concourse event for that morning so
picnic-goers will have the opportunity to see many really, really clean
Corvettes. August also brings us
the Woodward
Dream
Cruise on the 17th.
Mark your calendars now for September 15th and the return of our annual Fall
Brunch Cruise to St. Clair Inn. This
has been a very popular get together for us and a chance to caravan our
Corvettes along the shores of Lake St. Clair and the River to the historic
Inn. Note that this date is one month earlier than past years.
On October 13th
Corvette Club of Michigan will Cruise to Frankenmuth for a famous
Chicken Dinner and then shopping in the town where its always
Christmas.
Finally, Saturday, 11 January 2003 we will put on our finest threads for our Annual Awards Banquet
and Dinner Dance to be held at the fabulous Laurel Manor in Livonia.
The events listed above are just the start of our
opportunities to get together this coming year. Watch this space
through the year to see what else develops.
A big Corvette
Club of Michigan Thank you goes to Pat Jutras and her committee for the
wonderful evening we enjoyed Saturday 05 January 2002 at our Awards
Banquet and Dinner Dance. We
ate and celebrated at the Laurel Manor in Livonia.
We enjoyed an open bar, a buffet dinner, a wonderful desert and
dancing. Our special guests for the
evening included Dave and Karen Hill, Dave and Glennda McLellen, and Russ
Craighead of the Corvette platform team. Also with us from our sponsor,
Les Stanford Chevrolet, were Scott Montgomery and Chris Warren and their
escorts, Kerrie Montgomery and Colleen Adare.
Congratulations to all of the Corvette Club of Michigan Class and
Category champions whose accomplishments we celebrated that night.
After all, without them, we wouldnt be able hold an Awards
Banquet!
